Another Strange Nest (This One Also Stayed Bone Dry During The Storm)
Last time we were at this house, the owner was complaining about the robin that harassed her every time she went in and out the front door. Can you see why?
This is our first nest in a wreath. The owner of the house was so annoyed by the robin's behavior that she was threatening to move the nest (which might have worked if she picked a suitable location nearby, no guarantees though). We weren't sure what we'd find Tuesday, but there were four just hatched nestlings (!), not even completely dry yet.
(Interesting aside-- the very friendly and incredibly sweet mailman in this neighborhood saw us out nest checking and alerted us to the newly hatched orioles at this address. It's funny how many people misidentify robins when they seem so quintessentially robin-like and distinctive to me. I guess when you don't spend all day looking at birds you are less familiar with them. We still appreciated his tips and conversation.)

Ah, a striking symbol of 21st century Americana. A beautiful, ssafe, productive bird home, nestled into a snug crook of willow and flowers, adorning a cheery suburban home. With fuzzy babies. Lovely.
However...
That the Martha Stewart Front Door Wreath, made in China, intended to evoke a nostalgic sense of Spring, the Spring from one's pre-1929, wealth-in-the-country-nonexistent grandparents'-home Spring, should actually have (gasp!) Wild Vermin living in it, is nothing short of shocking. Something should be done!
Sigh.
Welcome to my planet.
